BREAKING… Amazon eyes second logistics center in Mid-Hudson

EAST FISHKILL – Amazon’s construction of a one-million-square-foot logistics center in the Town of Montgomery is not the only location the online retailer is eying in the Mid-Hudson Valley.

The giant company is now looking at the former IBM campus in East Fishkill to construct a more than 629,000-square-foot warehouse/distribution center at a cost of $135 million.

“Amazon’s proposed investment in the former IBM West Campus site in East Fishkill – and with 500 new jobs – will help our county recover from the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro.

“This is an annualized commitment in the creation of 500 jobs for Amazon, exactly where they ought to be, at the crossroads of I-84, near Connecticut, outside the proximity of New York City, and that all has made this property very attractive to them,” he said.

East Fishkill Town Supervisor Nicholas D’Alessandro said the town developed specialized zoning to attract new investment to the site that has remained fallow for more than 20 years. Providing 500 new jobs will be a “a tremendous boost to our local economy and we look forward to a long and successful partnership in the community.”

The county Industrial Development Agency is considering approval of a payment-in-lieu-of-taxes plan as well as mortgage tax and sales tax exemptions.

Dutchess officials offer a caveat to the deal, saying the online retailer is considering locations in other parts of the country.
